Thousands of people suffer from complaints which may be related to a poorly functioning colon. Because faeces have a sticky quality to them, the colon (bowel), over time can develop a coating on the inside lining which builds up and hardens into plaque, in some people this can be up to an inch thick. The colon absorbs liquid and other elements through it’s walls and into the blood stream and lymph, which is then carried to the liver for processing. If there is a build up in the colon (you can have between 2-10kg of faecal waste in there), then putrefaction and fermentation occurs and can pass into the bloodstream as poisons, which can then effect any part of your body, depending on your weaknesses. These poisons can compromise your immune system and detoxification organs, and contribute to weight gain.

You may have tried detoxification plans, diets and supplements, and these can work really well, however if the colon is working poorly, then the detoxification and cleansing may be incomplete, as the liver can only cleanse properly if the bowel is clear and eliminating well, otherwise the liver will dump toxins into the bowel, which will then simply re-cycle back to the liver again, and a vicious cycle ensues. Even bowel cleansing drinks and supplements don’t completely clean the bowel. Colon irrigation is able to because it gently soaks the lining over a series of treatments and is not harsh or irritating like many bowel cleansers can be, including laxatives.

We generally recommend a minimum of 3 colonics, the first 2 within 2 days of each other, and the third about 4-5 days later. This is because each colonic at most clears out around 1/3 of the bowel, and the water from the first 2 will also soak and soften matter further along the bowel, so it is easily eliminated the next time. Our colon irrigation system is gravity fed and odourless. The narrow rectal tube is self inserted, you are covered at all times in a private room with access to your therapist at all times.

Important information regarding your colonic irrigation: 

For optimum results we strongly recommend that you have a course of three irrigations in the first two weeks in order to achieve optimum results. The reason for having 3 irrigations in close succession is because each 45 minute irrigation can at most cleanse approximately 1/3 of the large bowel, and having them close together also leads to a soaking effect, which is the best way to rid the hardened and stubborn build up on the colon wall. It can take anywhere from 3 to 30 or more (in rare cases) irrigations to cleanse the colon. This can then be followed with a maintenance program, which could consist of one irrigation per month or more depending on your own personal needs. Before your Irrigation Therapy: 

It is best if you don’t eat for 2 hours prior to your treatment. You may drink fluids during this time. Have an average sized meal 2 hours or more before, limiting meat, fish and chicken.

After your Irrigation Therapy: 

After your therapy it is ideal not to eat any red meat or raw foods, and avoid alcohol and caffeine for the rest of the day.  The ideal meal after your therapy is soup, boiled rice, cooked vegetables with fish or chicken. You can resume a normal diet the following day.

Are there any side effects from Colonic Irrigation? 

Following your treatment some symptoms may arise that are indications of a successful irrigation. Colon Irrigation can aid in the release of toxins from the body and as a result can lead to some minor symptoms such as:

• Headache
• Muscular pain
• Undefined rash
• Allergies or other vague symptoms

If these symptoms arise you should drink plenty of filtered water and rest. Most symptoms will only be short lived, usually only for a few hours. These symptoms if they occur, tend to improve with subsequent irrigations, and are an indication of lowering the toxic levels in the body. After the recommended course of Colonic Irrigations you may find that you experience increased vitality, clarity of the senses and optimal health.

Commonly asked questions about Colon Irrigation

Do I need a referral from my Doctor or Naturopath?

No, this is not necessary. There are however some health conditions which are contra-indicated for Colon Irrigation, or which require written permission from your Doctor before treatment can proceed.

Will I feel embarrassed?

Your treatment is carried out in total privacy, and you will remain covered at all times throughout your irrigation.

What about smells and odours?

The uniquely designed colonic irrigation system makes this procedure odourless.

Will the rectal tube hurt me?

The slim rectal tube is made of soft plastic and is designed with a rounded tip for easy self-insertion.

Is the procedure painful?

During the procedure you may notice some slight pressure, just as you would naturally when you feel the need to move your bowels.

How long does the irrigation take?

You will be on the irrigation bed for 45 minutes and you can return to your normal activities straight away.

Can I catch AIDS or any other infection from the procedure?

No! The rectal tube is sealed in a sterile pack and is opened only when required for your treatment, after which it’s immediately discarded. All other equipment is chemically cleaned between appointments.
