Invented by Mr. Tom Bowen one of Victoria’s first Osteopaths. Bowen technique is a simple muscle, tendon, ligament and sinew relaxant method that is designed to relax contracted soft tissues which may be putting uneven strain on various joints and spinal structures.
When muscles spasm, joint spaces can be narrowed and nerves trapped in spasmed fibers. Additionally muscle spasm distorts tendon channel positions causing inflammation, swelling and pain.
By activating specific Bowen reflex points it is possible to relax muscles, and using finger pressure, to realign tendons in their correct channels.
As the muscles and other soft tissue of the body assume their correct length and position, they release their pressure on the skeletal structure and the spine then assumes a position which is comfortable for the patient.
Additionally Bowen technique has proven to be particularly useful for assisting in the treatment of;
Congested sinus, blocked ears and associated facial/respiratory glands.
This cross fibre technique is usually used in combination with other techniques but it can be used as a complete stand alone system within itself. If the Bowen Technique is something that you feel you would benifit greatly from, please be sure to advise our staff when you contact us or make an appointment request. The Bowen Technique requires approximately ½ an hour for a full body treatment.
