All naturopaths work with a foundation philosophy that incorporates an holistic approach to their patients. Vis Medicatrix Naturae - The healing power of nature. This refers to the idea that the body has an inherent self healing mechanism called the vital force. This vital force endeavours to restore balance to health at all times. Naturopaths endeavour to remove blockages to the flow of vital force so that the body can heal itself. Tolle Causam - Identify and treat the cause. The naturopathic practitioner identifies and treats the cause of a disease, rather than treating the symptom or disease which often leads to a suppression of the illness. Primum Non Nocere - First do no harm. We always choose the least invasive therapeutic approach, using natural substances where possible. This is to assure that we are minimising the effects of interactions with other drugs/nutrients and that there will be no side effects. Docere - Doctor as Teacher. It is our role as natural therapists to provide excellent information to our clients to improve their understanding of their health. This will encourage the client to take responsibility for their own healing. Treat the Whole Person
By taking into account the clients wholeness, that is their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health we can treat the whole person. We also take into account other contributing factors such as their lifestyle, social interaction and environment. All of this leads to a more holistic approach to the patient’s health care.
