Natremed Newsletter
June 2010
Dear [FIRSTNAME],
This is the time of year that our clinic becomes really busy. Everyone is becoming all clogged up and congested, cold weather moods and activity levels are settling in and with this comes a down shift in our immunity. This does not have to mean colds and flu's, especially if you take action now to set up a positive response in your body.
Reading Emma's article on 'Alternatives to the Flu Vaccine' I was reminded of how important it is to continue to eat really well, get plenty of sunshine and stay on top of your fluid intake.
Melynda has some great ideas on how to stay active and keep our circulation moving in her article 'The Natural Garden and Detox' and remember if you do get hit with an infection you can always book in for a BUG TEST!
Whats in this edition?
Bug Tests
Most people think about coming to see a naturopath when they have a chronic (long term complaint), but forget about us when they have a cold, flu or other nasty but acute (short term) condition. Naturopathic treatment is works amazingly for colds, flu's and other acute infections because our medicines support the body to recover quickly and more completely. So if you are feeling under the weather and just want a 'quick fix' ask our staff if a bug test would be beneficial for you. The short consultations are for 15minutes so that you can get home and rest and allow your natural immunity to do its job. You can always follow up with a complete naturopathic consultation later on, to ensure complete recovery and prevent reinfection!
Promotion Special on Detox Sauna
We currently have a Five for Four promotion special of our Far Infrared Sauna. Buy four and get one free! $48 for 5 x 30min sessions, save $12 or $60 for 5 x 45min sessions, save $15. We also have other packages for 10 sessions, ask one of our friendly staff at reception!
The sauna is a great way to detox from heavy metals, to loosen up prior to a massage and to stimulate the immune system to fight infections. In winter it is a lovely way to warm up and encourage circulation.
The Natural Garden & Detox
As usual I have had an enjoyable and relaxing time getting
the garden ready for our winter veggies and now having the delight of
seeing
the Peas and Broad Beans uncurling themselves as they emerge from the
soil as
if they are stretching for the first time. They are all strong and
healthy
looking and soon will be climbing up the support and before we know it
we will
have flowers and then the yummy fresh peas and broad beans to eat.
Alternatives & Adjunctives to the Flu Vaccine
If you are one of the many
Australians who have chosen not to have the flu vaccine this year, then you may
be seeking some other options for protecting and enhancing your natural
immunity.
We have recently added some new sections to our recipe menu on the website. Have a look at our therapeutics and skin care section - all foods that help to boost your vitality/ protect your skin! Get inspired and begin to use your food as your medicine!

Challenge of the Month
Challange of the Month - Protein
Palm: To have a palm sized serve of protein at each meal.
Protein is the part of food required for structure and growth. It helps to build our lean muscles, grow our hair, skin and nails and is the backbone of our immune cells, DNA and hormones. Without protein you feel tired, flabby and crave sugar.
The challenge for this month is to increase your protein intake to 1 palm sized serve at each meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
Some ideas:
- Breakfast: Eggs, wholegrain toast, L.S.A (linseed, sunflower, almond meal), Tahini, ABC spread, natural yoghurt
- Lunch/ Dinner: Eggs, humus dip, legumes, lentils (soup mix), tuna, fish, chicken, fetta, cheese, milk, tofu, soya products, red meat
If you do this everyday for 2 weeks you will start to have more energy, be less hungry between meals, crave less sugar and sleep better too!
Dumbing Ourselves Down
There is a difference between shifting our energy to accommodate people we are around and dumbing ourselves down.
The ability to go into any social situation and sense the level of consciousness in that situation is a gift. It enables us to move considerately in a world that holds people of all levels of awareness. However, there is a difference between shifting our energy to accommodate people and dumbing ourselves down to a regrettable degree. Sometimes, when we get into a particular social situation, we may feel pressure to play it small in order to fit in. Perhaps everyone is drinking or smoking excessively, engaging in gossipy small talk, or complaining bitterly about politics. It is one thing to notice this and modify our expectations and another thing entirely to join in.
When we notice where people are coming from and acknowledge to ourselves that their energy is not in alignment with ours, we have several choices as to how to proceed. One viable option is to quietly endure the situation, keeping to ourselves until it is time to leave. In this way, we take care of our own consciousness and protect our growth process. Another option is to interact in a way that honors and pays respect to the people in the group, while gently attempting to shift the level of consciousness with our input. In order to do this, we must maintain our own vibration, which means that joining in by dumbing down is not an option.
When we choose to dumb ourselves down to fit in, we not only sell ourselves short but we also lose a possible opportunity to influence the situation for the good of all concerned. Our desire to join in may come from our natural yearning to feel connected to the people around us. There is no shame in this, but being able to stand on our own, separate from the crowd, is a powerful milestone on any spiritual path. It can be difficult in the moment, but when we arrive on the other side, our integrity intact, we may find ourselves feeling positively smart.
